Illuminated Bronze Art Deco Railroad Station Lamp Tables, USA, 1929
Originating from the Buffalo Terminal of the New York Central Railroad, completed in 1929. The terminal was an early American modernist masterpiece, entirely designed and fitted in quintessential Art Deco style. This lamp would have been perched high on a pedestal overlooking the terminal. Featuring bold geometry starting from the square base, an angular octagonal column rises and is intersected by the eight triangular frosted glass panels of the diffuser section. The entire lamp is cast in solid bronze, having been further polished and lacquered. In outstanding original condition, with a deep lustrous finish. An impressive original deco masterpiece.
